Based in Southern Maine, Tatiana first started shooting in 2011 at a NRA Women on Target clinic. It was the first time she had been on a range or held a handgun and fell in love with the experience. This passion quickly evolved from recreational use to personal protection as a single mother of two, turning her hobby into her full-time focus, study and profession.

Tatiana’s teaching programs focus on bridging the gap between fundamental skills development on the range and real-world, context-based applications, offering educational opportunities for both new gun owners and experienced shooters. Today, Tatiana’s year-round concealed carry is a Walther PDP F-Series 4″ in 9mm, topped with Trijicon RMR optic, shooting Federal Premium HST ammunition.

As a Mom of four ranging in age from twenty to one-and-a-half, I have a strong opinion about the best guns for Moms. Moms don’t have time to mess around. We have careers to run, children to raise, sporting events to attend, finances to manage, groceries and meal planning, diapers to change, teens to wrangle, pets, and somewhere in all of that glorious mess, we carve out some “me time” and hit the range. What is the best gun for Mom? Before you rush out and buy the first pink subcompact off the shelf, let’s pause and investigate what Mom really does and doesn’t want in a handgun.

What Moms DO want?

  • An all-purpose investment: A gun that serves us well on the range, for home defense, and for concealed carry.
  • Cinderella’s Slipper: A gun that fits our hands without compromise.
  • Customized to Me: We want options for sights, upgraded triggers, and decorative and functional accessories should we want to trick our ride.

What Moms DON’T want?

  • Buyer Remorse: Our time and resources are precious.
  • We don’t want to kiss a lot of frogs: While test-driving new guns is fun, it can also be exhausting and overwhelming.
  • Needle in a Haystack: We don’t want to have to scour the internet for holsters or accessories for rare or obscure makes or models.

While no one gun is a guarantee for all women, a few collections of well-designed firearms check the above boxes. At the lead in the firearms industry is Walther Arms, which listened to women shooters and responded with meaningful product solutions. This is a fantastic example of how end-user input and world-class engineering yielded one of the most widely sought-after families of firearms for women: the Performance Duty Pistol, PDP F-Series, and the PD380.

WALTHER PDP (Performance Duty Pistol): For Moms with average to bigger hands or long elegant fingers. The PDP is a female-friendly ergonomic answer to a full size of 9mm. Thanks to design features like its unique textured grip and generous slide serrations, the PDP is gentle on the hands and intuitive to manipulate. No need to upgrade this trigger; the PDP comes with the Performance Duty Trigger already installed! An excellent option for home defense, concealed carry, competition, or plinking.

WALTHER PDP F-Series: For Moms with average size to smaller hands. The F-Series is a 9mm firearm specifically tuned to the unique proportions of a woman’s hand. A slimmer version of the full-size PDP, the F-Series allows women shooters to easily and comfortably access the trigger, mag release, and slide lever. Bonus – the slide requires 20% less force to rack! The F-Series is another fantastic all-in-one firearm for home defense, concealed carry, competition, or range time.

PD380: Do you need to dial down the recoil just a little? The PD380 is a scaled-down PDP-style model in a gentler 380 caliber but with the aesthetic appeal of the PDP line. It is almost effortless to rack, making it the gentlest firearm, packing the biggest punch. This tiny but mighty pistol can hold its own for personal protection or target shooting.
